2008, a delayed recap

I've been missing from the world of Xanga the last few months, but I decided to return to briefly to recap 2008 and my Christmas. First off, a Christmas story brought to you by my grandparents...

Scene: Myself, my grandma, and my grandpa are on our way to lunch. We just left the house after my grandmother had been complaining about my sister and how messy and unorganized she is.

GRANDMA: Well, Christmas was just too crowded in that house this year. I'm glad I won't be around next year.

ME: Where are you going?

GRANDPA (interrupting) I'm going to shoot her.

Now, yes, this sounds awful. But, my grandpa is very sarcastic and they have been married a VERY long time.  =)

Yes, my sister and her family still live in my parent's house and yes, it still sucks. Blah. Overall, though, it was good to see friends and family. Of course, I'm always reminded of the fact that I'm still single when I go home and everyone is married with kids and I'm not. I've gotten used to it but it still makes me feel like I don't really "fit".

2008 was pretty good I must admit. I went to London, gave a kick-ass presentation at our annual conference, and got a dog. Not bad. In 2009, I expect to start the MBA program at AU. As of right now, that is the only thing I know that looms on the horizon. Not sure what else to expect. But, I didn't expect any of the those things to happen in '08 that did.

So, here's to a New Year...Cheers.

As it turns out...

Well, the sexual assault on campus that was reported last week turned out to be a false report. Honestly, I don't know many details so it's a bit confusing. At first I was angry but now I just feel confused. Don't people consider the consequences of their actions? My mom was relieved. She worries so much sometimes. I guess I wouldn't know how I would feel since I don't have a daughter living alone in a part of town that isn't exactly the best area. But still, I have a 55 lb. black dog. Most people look at her when were walking with a sense of caution, so I feel very safe. But, it's different with my mother.

Last night was the orientation session for Lilo's obedience class. I have to teach her "clicker training". At first, you take the clicker and click it, then just give them a treat, like ten times in a row. It's supposed to get them to associate the click with a treat. When I first tried it on Lilo, she was more concerned about finding out where the clicker sound was coming from than getting a treat. She kept looking around the room for this clicking sound. This may be a long 8 weeks worth of class...

Travel season is going well. About half way through. This year will be longer since I have to go to Florida a month earlier than usual. But, it's Fall, Homecoming is this weekend, and I am just content to have a job in a community of friends. Happy October!

Hello Friends...

I love travel, but more than that, I love home. I guess home for me is now officially Anderson. Blah, I never thought of it as home but there's no denying it. Part of my job requires me to visit high schools to meet with students possibly interested in attending AU. I like it sometimes but most of the time, it's weird. I get flashbacks of how crappy high school was. The only difference now is the doors are always locked except for one so the school can monitor who comes in and out, and there are posters everywhere about how bullying is not tolerated.

One update for me is I am finally getting a new AU car to use. My Penny Pumpkin is retiring after putting 112,000 miles on her. I am getting a new Pontiac Vibe and I cannot wait. This is more than likely the only time I will ever get a new car to drive. I am a firm believer in buying used cars since they loose their value, so I am excited. Here's a pic...

No funny stories to tell from the week, so sorry. I am enjoying being a dog owner more and more every day. It's nice to have some company in my place. Hope everyone is doing well, till next time...Later

Notes from the road...

Well, it's September, and with it brings Fall Travel Season. I've started hitting the road to schools in Southern Indiana this week to meet students and promote AU. I enjoy the travel, the independence, meeting random people and seeing the small towns I drive through. Today, as I was walking out of a McDonalds, this old man was walking through the parking lot and yelled "you can go screw off!". I turned my head and glared at him and he became defensive and yelled "I wasn't talking to you, not you!" The funny thing was, I don't know who he could have been talking to since there was no one else in the parking lot...

I got a dog! I've had her for a couple weeks now. She is a boxer mix and her name is Lilo. She is so good and a great dog. She is about a year old, completely house broken, and has all her shots and such. =)
